The Zephyr Theatre is on a roll again.The third annual Let the Art Move You Gala, the theatre’s largest fundraiser of the year, will be held Sept. 25, and Stillwater Trolley Co. will provide the transport.
Modeled off of popular progressive-dinner events, the gala starts and ends at The Zephyr Theatre and includes trolley rides to three downtown Stillwater venues — The Grand Banquet Hall, Nacho Mama’s, and Ziggy’s on Main.

The classic version of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young’s song “Teach Your Children” starts with a distinctive pedal steel guitar solo. Fans of the folk rock supergroup may already be singing: “You, who are on the road, must have a code that you can live by… .”
Now, imagine that intro played on a penny whistle and the lyrics sung in three-part harmony by women. There you have SimpleGifts, the group created by guitarist, composer, and producer Billy McLaughlin and returning to The Zephyr for an outdoor concert Aug. 28.

The Zephyr Theatre has just announced its 2022/23 season, and it will include a volatile drama, familiar and brand-new musicals, ghost stories, ice thrills, and a double dose of Shakespeare.
“This is the most extensive and ambitious season we’ve been able to mount since our first show in 2017,” said Calyssa Hall, The Zephyr’s executive director.

What’s with the band’s name? That’s a good question, according to John Wright, the founding member and bass player for Galactic Cowboy Orchestra, which will return to The Zephyr’s outdoor stage for the third time Aug. 25.
Since 2009 when the band was formed, Wright has been quizzed about the unusual name. “I guess I should have a quickly framed witty response,” Wright said. But he didn’t. His answer is as simple as the group’s music is complex.

These Twin Cities musicians hope to introduce a new audience to the lively musical genre known as choro, which originated in Rio de Janeiro in the late 19th century. With deep African roots, it is related to Dixieland and ragtime from the U.S. and also includes strong harmonies and signature strumming from European traditions.
